The Lies we Tell Ourselves about our style 📣

What a fun summer from our trip to Las Vegas, styling Emily for a new podcast for the city of Newark and Reem for a K- Pop trip to South Korea and working with my daughter our summer intern.

We also celebrated 11 years in business and I took a moment to appreciate this milestone. What a privilege to help 100s of women and some men go from closet chaos to clarity so they step into their next chapter more authentically.

Over the years I've heard a lot of limiting beliefs when it comes to personal style. I'm sharing the lies women tell themselves lies when it comes to their personal style.

* Lies we tell ourselves about our style *

→ LIE: you must choose between style and comfort.

Truth: Style and comfort aren't opposites they actually work well together.

There's a whole range of clothing between stilettos' and sweatpants. Some of my favorite pieces are cozy cardigans, wide leg denim and colorful sneakers.

When you're comfortable in your clothes, you show up differently.

Tip: Look for soft fabrics like ponte, cashmere, and stretch cotton.

→ Lie: Shopping should be a reward for weight loss.

Truth: You deserve to look good in your clothes right now.

So many people say I'll deal with my style after I lose some weight. This implies you feel that you aren't worthy right now.

Waiting to feel worthy is like hitting pause on your life, stifling your growth.

When you start dressing for the person you are now, you make a powerful promise to yourself that you deserve to look good.

Secret: Most of my clients lose weight after hiring me.

→ Lie: I'm too old to wear this.

Truth: Age should never be a determining factor in what you wear.

I styled a 91 year old woman once who told me that I made her feel beautiful and seen. I didn't take away her sparkles, hide her shape or put her in jersey.

If you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing, who cares if it's age appropriate.

→ Lie: I have nothing to wear
Truth: You have not been wearing most of what you own.

The most common lie we tell ourself when we are staring at our crowded closet. This is usually because we aren't sure how to style pieces together to make the outfit.

Or we get in a style rut and wear the same thing over and over again.

Often times a little decluttering and organizing of your closet will help you see more of what you actually own.

→ Lie: I can't afford to dress nicely.

Truth: You can't afford not to.

Looking stylish does not mean you need to have a high end luxury wardrobe. It does require you to invest some money to dress well.

If we focus on a few good quality pieces, we can make endless combinations.

It's not that we don't have the money, its that we're spending it on everyone else but us. It's not selfish to dress well, it's selfless.

Not investing in your personal style can cost you a promotion or a chance to meet someone worth connecting with.
